Builder and IDE Upgrade

We’re excited to announce one of the biggest updates to Shadcn Studio yet ✨

Our IDE Extension and Drag-and-Drop Builder now support both Base UI and Radix UI, giving developers and teams more flexibility while building modern interfaces with shadcn/ui.

Along with this, we’ve officially deprecated the old v2 support and moved forward with full support for the latest v4 architecture

This update is designed to make your workflow faster, cleaner, and more flexible β€” whether you’re building components, previewing blocks, or exporting production-ready UI 🎨

What’s New in the IDE Extension?

IDE extension

The Shadcn IDE Extension just became much more powerful πŸ”₯

Base UI + Radix UI Support

You can now generate and work with components using:

  • Base UI

  • Radix UI

This means developers can choose the primitive system that best fits their stack, preferences, or project architecture πŸ› οΈ

Whether you prefer the accessibility-focused ecosystem of Radix UI or the flexibility of Base UI, the extension now works seamlessly with both.

Deprecated v2 β†’ Full v4 Support

We’ve officially deprecated the older v2 implementation and introduced support for the latest v4 structure.

Benefits of v4 support include:

  • Cleaner architecture

  • Better scalability

  • Improved compatibility

  • Easier maintenance

  • Modernized component generation

  • Future-ready ecosystem support

This ensures the extension stays aligned with the latest shadcn ecosystem and modern frontend workflows.

Major Improvements to the Drag-and-Drop Builder

Drag and Drop Builder

The Shadcn Drag and Drop Builder also received a huge upgrade

Export in Base UI or Radix UI

Previously, exporting was limited to a single structure.

Now, while exporting your blocks or layouts, you can choose:

  • Export with Base UI

  • Export with Radix UI

This gives developers the freedom to work in the ecosystem they already use internally πŸ”₯

Why This Matters

One of the biggest challenges while building component systems is compatibility between primitive libraries and preview environments.

This update solves that problem

Now you can:

  • Preview components in both ecosystems

  • Test compatibility faster

  • Reduce migration friction

  • Build reusable UI systems

  • Export production-ready code instantly

This makes the workflow significantly smoother for teams building scalable design systems and modern SaaS applications πŸš€

Easier Block & Component Previewing

With the new export system, you can now quickly preview your shadcn blocks and shadcn components in both Base UI and Radix UI environments.

This is especially useful for:

  • Design system teams

  • Component library creators

  • SaaS startups

  • Agencies

  • Internal product teams

  • Developers migrating between ecosystems

Instead of manually rewriting primitives, you can now switch export targets directly from the builder ⚑

Better Developer Experience

This update is heavily focused on improving developer experience.

You can now:

  • Generate faster

  • Preview faster

  • Export faster

  • Experiment with multiple UI primitive systems

  • Maintain consistency across projects

The goal is simple:

✨ Build once. Export anywhere.
